『ARCANE』 Ma Meilleure Ennemie / Stromae & Pomme 【Vulkain & Raku】

I'm one of those who just jumped over to watching Arcane season 2 as soon as it got released after feeling pure love for the first season.
The story telling, audio and visual directions from Riot and Fortiche on this series is just something else (and watching all the behind the scene videos emphasizes that aspect)
So I watched the Season 2, episodes after episodes … and Episode 7 happened. Can't say with words everything I felt during that episode but it all led to:
– Raku: hey dude, wanna sing Ma Meilleure Enn-
– Vulkain: yes.
– Raku: I- …
– Vulkain: yes.
(This is fictional but .. you get the mood)
Anyway, walking in the footsteps of the great Stromae wasn't an easy story so it took quite some weeks for me to get the grasp on the song, its meaning and feelings.
After few recording sessions of unintentionally bastardizing Stromae's performance, I ended up getting the groove of it and somehow managed to adapt it to my own voice
Raku simply and purely nailed Pomme's parts, and her lines were a blessing to mix with.
Despite the love I have for the original version, I'm quite happy with what we came up with here.
For those who haven't watched the series .. please just do. It really deserves the love and respect it received.
That aside, besides all the Alien Stage collabs I've been in lately, I've been cooking some other stuff, both covers/arranges and drafts of originals.
I'm wishing to make some time to work on a track (for a certain album … 🙂 ) but also another original I had kept in the fridge for a while, which is not Boo:oom related.
It's still taking some time but I'm trying to compose in a sustainable way lately and try to keep space for loving the craft first.
For those still waiting for the album, thank you for your patience, I haven't forgotten you and I've been doing my best to make everything work, in a sustainable way !

Je fais partie des quelques allumés qui ont sauté sur la saison 2 d'Arcane dès qu'elle est sortie, après tout l'amour que j'ai eu pour la première saison.
La narration, les directions audio et visuelle de Riot et Fortiche sur cette série … c'est juste un autre monde (et les "behind the scene" et "making of" n'aident pas haha).
Après avoir regardé les épisodes, les uns après les autres … l'épisode 7 de la saison 2, juste… je ne peux pas dire avec des mots tout ce que j'ai ressenti pendant cet épisode, mais tout cela a mené à… :
– Raku : Yo, tu veux chanter Ma Meilleure Enn- ?
– Vulkain : oui.
– Raku : Je…
– Vulkain : oui.
(Conversation fictive, mais vous voyez un peu le mood …)
Quoi qu'il en soit, pas simple de marcher sur les pas du grand Stromae et il m'a fallu plusieurs semaines pour "m'approprier" la chanson.
Après quelques sessions d'enregistrement à involontairement sonner un peu trop comme Stromae (mais pas forcément en bien), j'ai fini par choper le truc et à adapter ses parties à ma propre voix.
De son côté, Raku a purement et simplement nailed les parties de Pomme. Clairement dans son élément, avec toutes les nuances qui étaient appréciables de la version d'origine. Merci pour tes lignes qui étaient de l'or en barre à mixer !
Avec tout l'amour que je porte à la version originale, je suis assez content d'avoir pu finir sur une version qui nous est un peu plus propre, sans pour autant dénaturer la chanson.
Pour ceux qui n'ont pas encore regardé la série, je vous invite à le faire. Elle mérite vraiment l'amour et le respect qu'elle a reçus.
A part ça, en plus de toutes les collaborations Alien Stage auxquelles j'ai participé dernièrement, j'ai préparé d'autres choses, à la fois des covers/arrangements et des ébauches de compo originales.
J'essaye de prendre le temps de travailler sur une chanson (pour un certain album … 🙂 ) mais aussi sur une autre chanson originale que j'avais laissé au placard pendant un moment, qui n'est pas lié à Boo:oom, mais que j'ai très envie de développer.
Cela prend encore un peu de temps mais j'essaie de composer, d'une manière un peu saine, ces derniers temps et de garder de l'espace pour aimer le procédé.
Pour ceux qui attendent toujours l'album, merci de votre patience, je ne vous ai pas oublié et je fais de mon mieux pour que tout fonctionne.
