Hey everyone !
Hope you guys still doing awesome !!
On my end … I've felt a bit down lately … work/life balance has been degrading … and I've had a mixed feelings about how good I am on each aspect of my life
I want to be better at my music/singing skills, better at my job, better performing in badminton and overall be a better person to my surrounding, altogether and I think each time one aspect feels weaker, I start freaking out.
Hope those next few days off will help relax a bit.
On a side note, I've started working on Boo:ooM again recently and have had many ideas but it just goes in all sort of directions (maybe that's how I should do it ?)
I might need to either focus back to the main story line OR consider this musical chaos as the essence of what I feel I should compose for the album. Still to be decided.
Anyway .. back to the main topic for today !!
Last April, Raku told me "you should watch 'Oshi no Ko' … it's good", so I did my usual thing and … went listening to the opening song.
… and I actually also watched the anime, which to my surprise, was as great as it was relatable. The kind of story that would speak to any artist and/or person that has a foot in the entertainment industry.
Tbh I loved the anime and I think it's one of the best in 2023 so far (with Pluto).
About the opening, I'm actually not too much of a fan of Yoasobi's electronic arrangements overall but I felt there was something that could be done with the song.
I wanted to cover the song but not with the original arrangement so … I felt this was an opportunity for me to "do something a bit different this time"
I originally intended to work on a Metal arrangement (I probably still have some samples somewhere) but it was just not my cup of tea.
The more I was working on the arrangement, the more I wanted to switch to something funky/brassy … which I eventually did.
This arrangement was inspired by many songs ("TANK!" from Cowboy Bebop and "Canned Heat" by Jamiroquai among them, also one of Boo:ooM's song)
I tried going for some chord progressions that felt a bit more progressive and a bit less repetitive and tried to give a bit more energy (and slight distortion) in my vocal performance (also a reason why I tried studying Ado's singing recently)
I don't think it could have sounded this great without the help of Project Mikan brass guys(the same people who helped on the brass section for "Daddy! Daddy! Do!"). Their performance is top notch and I can't recommend them more.
The visuals were a combo of Slobbery's art. If you wish to commission an artist, they're simple great at Kakashi-ing art styles in a very great way. Tbh Slo was a great recommendation by friends of mine, so go commission them !
First time collaborating with autumnwhitecat/Akira on the video and he's a goldmine to be working with so I hope to be able to collab with him again in the future !
Hope you'll enjoy this (short) rendition of IDOL, until next time (which should be very very soon) ! See you !
PS: Is anyone here good at writing stories ? Because I feel a story I've been working on makes just no sense
