jPoP Music – vTube

About vtubes.tokyo

vtubes.tokyo is an independent platform dedicated to increasing the visibility of Japanese VTuber, music, and artist-related content on YouTube.
The website is not intended to replace YouTube, but rather to complement it by helping artists reach a wider audience and making new releases easier to discover.
The project originally started from a very personal problem. Over time, my own YouTube subscription feed became increasingly difficult to manage due to the large number of subscribed channels. In 2017, I began developing a custom system to organize and monitor new uploads from my subscriptions more efficiently.
During the development of this original feed and subscription system, I realized that there was no platform focused on Japanese VTubers and music artists that presented new releases in a structured, fair, and easy-to-follow way. That idea eventually evolved into vtubes.tokyo.

Today, the platform includes more than: (Current status as of May 13, 2026)

  • 3,620 Artists
  • 707,559 Videos

The number of integrated artists also directly reflects my own personal YouTube subscription list, which I manually monitor every day for new releases and activity.

The Core Idea Behind vtubes.tokyo

Modern YouTube is heavily driven by algorithms. Videos with low view counts often disappear quickly from visibility, regardless of the effort or quality behind them. Smaller artists and newer channels especially tend to get buried very easily.
vtubes.tokyo exists to help close that gap.

The platform aims to:

  • make new music easier to discover,
  • support smaller artists,
  • present new releases in a structured way,
  • and guide people directly to the original artists on YouTube.

It does not matter whether a channel is large or small.
All artists are technically treated equally within the system.

Not a Replacement for YouTube

vtubes.tokyo does not store videos itself and is not intended to compete with YouTube.

The website acts purely as a bridge between artists and people discovering their content. Videos are either embedded directly from YouTube or linked directly to the original uploads. Following a major system redesign, new links now redirect users directly to YouTube video pages whenever possible, ensuring that views, likes, and engagement go directly to the artists themselves.

Even social media integrations intentionally use official YouTube images whenever possible.

The goal was never to keep users on vtubes.tokyo for as long as possible.
The goal is to help people discover artists and support them directly on YouTube.

Artists Come First

The website itself intentionally stays in the background.
The design and structure of vtubes.tokyo are deliberately minimalistic so that the focus remains on the artists and their content — not the platform itself.
New videos, livestreams, premieres, and music releases are continuously updated and displayed in a clean and organized way. The platform also includes systems designed to help smaller or lesser-known videos gain additional visibility.

One example is the custom traffic-light system:

  • 🟡 Under 50 views → needs more attention
  • 🟠 50–99 views → would appreciate more visibility
  • 🟢 Over 100 views → still deserves support

The idea behind this is simple:
Not only large creators deserve visibility. Smaller artists should also have a real opportunity to be discovered.

Manual Integration Instead of Full Automation

All artists on vtubes.tokyo are manually integrated.
There is no automated submission or application system. New artists are personally discovered and added manually.
Once an artist has been integrated, a custom-built semi-automatic system handles the processing of new releases and updates. This system has been developed and refined over many years specifically for the needs of vtubes.tokyo and is optimized to handle large amounts of YouTube content efficiently.

Only publicly available information provided directly by YouTube is processed, including:

  • video titles,
  • descriptions,
  • publish dates,
  • channel information,
  • thumbnails,
  • livestream status,
  • and statistics.

The platform is intentionally designed to remain lightweight, resource-efficient, and sustainable even at a very large scale.

Statistics, Trends, and Visibility

vtubes.tokyo also includes various statistics and overview pages that provide insight into the integrated artist network.

These pages display information such as:

  • most active artists,
  • most viewed channels,
  • trending videos,
  • popular releases,
  • and currently active livestreams.

Important:This data comes directly from YouTube itself and only applies to artists that have already been integrated into vtubes.tokyo.
The website is not intended to function as a global ranking platform for all of YouTube, but rather as an overview and discovery system for its own integrated artist ecosystem.

Additional Projects

In addition to vtubes.tokyo, several other websites and projects exist that are connected to my long-term interest in Japanese music, artists, and media culture.

jpopmusic.tokyo

The original main website and the foundation from which many later systems eventually evolved.
The site focuses more broadly on Japanese music, anime, artists, and media culture and existed long before vtubes.tokyo.

mitsukemashita.tokyo

A personal music project where original music is published.
The songs are created using Suno AI while all lyrics are personally written by me.

Personal Artist Support Pages

Several smaller dedicated pages also exist for artists that I personally enjoy and wish to support:

These pages mainly serve as curated overview and support pages dedicated to the respective artists.

Long-Term Development

vtubes.tokyo has grown organically over many years.
What originally started as a private feed and subscription management system gradually evolved into a custom infrastructure focused on managing, observing, and increasing the visibility of Japanese music and VTuber content.

Today, the platform includes numerous custom-built systems for:

  • content importing and management,
  • search and indexing,
  • cache and performance optimization,
  • social media support,
  • statistics and monitoring,
  • security and media handling,
  • and automated maintenance and verification processes.

Despite the scale of the platform, the core philosophy has remained the same from the beginning:

  • make artists more visible,
  • organize content in a meaningful way,
  • and guide people directly to the artists themselves.

Funding and Advertising

vtubes.tokyo is completely ad-free.
The platform generates no revenue from the content of the artists and has no affiliation with agencies, advertising networks, or monetization services. All server and operating costs are privately funded.
The website exists purely out of personal passion for Japanese music, VTubers, artists, and content discovery.

Content Removal

Artists who do not wish to have their content displayed on vtubes.tokyo can request removal at any time.

Final Words

vtubes.tokyo is not a traditional platform, network, or company.
It is the result of many years of personal interest in Japanese music, artists, YouTube culture, and content discovery.

The website still follows the same simple idea today:

Good music and interesting artists deserve visibility — regardless of how large or small a channel may currently be.
